Do you want to become involved with Westovian Theatre Society at the Pier Pavilion in South Shields?
Thinking about becoming a member?
Westovian Theatre Society are staged and supported by both acting and non-acting members; junior members; front of house and stage crew.
We are always looking for new and enthusiastic acting theatre ‘stars’ and you can be a member of the society without even needing to put a step onto stage! There are several ways of becoming involved with the company as follows:
Adult Membership: become a member of the Westovian Theatre Society, help us to put the shows onto stage and enjoy the social events held throughout the year. Adult membership of the company begins at the age of 18 years. An annual membership subscription of £25 is collected 1st August of each year.
Junior Membership: become a junior member of the Westovian Theatre Society, if you are interested in amateur dramatics or stage craft and are aged between 12 and 18 years of age. The junior society aims to put on two shows a year; one in summer the other in winter. Rehearsals are programmed to suit the production and the adult rehearsal schedule and are usually held between 5.45 and 7.30pm on Wednesdays. Membership subscription of £10 is collected annually.
Behind the scenes: members who find their talents are more suited to the more technical part of amateur dramatics theatre provide assistance up to and during the week of the show including; props & wardrobe, front of house, prompt and stage crew. As well as helping erect the stage being a part of the stage crew can include helping with the lighting, changing scenery and moving stage furniture between scenes and operating the final curtain!
For more information on joining the society please contact the Adult/Junior Membership Secretary or email at: firstname.lastname@example.org
Committee Members: no amateur dramatic theatre society would exist without the hard work and dedication of the committee members. Committee members are voted in at the Annual General Meeting held in October of each year. The committee and company are presided over by an executive committee.
Frequently Asked Questions:
"I'm not really sure if it's for me"Why not come to a few of our rehearsals? It costs nothing to come and see. You’ll be made very welcome and we won’t pressure you to join until you’re sure.
"It's a bit nerve-wracking just turning up when you don't know anyone"
Of course it is, we’ve all had to do it, but we are a very friendly society and we’ll do our best to make you feel at home – call our secretary to let us know you’re coming and we’ll look out for you. If you like, you can bring a friend along for moral support even if they are not interested in joining. Rehearsals can be great fun!
"I'd like to join but I don't want to go on stage"
There’s plenty of other ways to get involved. We always need help back stage – with scenery, props, make-up etc. In the theatre during the week of the show we need help with merchandise, programme sales and much more.
"How do I get to rehearsals?"
We always rehearse at the Pier Pavilion Theatre, Pier Parade, South Shields, Tyne and Wear, NE33 2JS [Google Maps].
"Where do you perform?"
As with our rehearsals we stage ALL our shows at the Pier Pavilion Theatre, Pier Parade, South Shields, Tyne and Wear, NE33 2JS [Google Maps].
"How much time will it take?"
We rehearse for each production most evenings (Production Director sets timetable), for most of the year. We have a couple of weeks off in the summer and a break at Christmas. As we get close to a production we hold additional evening rehearsals. If you don’t want to perform, you can just come along and help out either at rehearsals or during the week of the show. You will be very busy, of course, during the week we perform but it’s only in the evening and most people still go to work during the days.
