As they selflessly saved the war ef-fort on the home front through the war, they also found time to play football Despite their daily hard, physical work—and competition from dozens of women’s teams based across the North East, Blyth Spartan Ladies became the best side in 1918, with Bella Reay scoring 133 goals in 30 matches. These heroic ladies have been largely forgotten…until now!
